    Sections reorder after compacting database

This is a weird one that I have just noticed today. Business Plus 9.0.3

All 'shop by brand' sub-sections are ordered in alphabetical order. After compacting the database one of the subsections begining with O moves to the second position i'e after 4ever but before Applied Nutrition.

    Anyone seen this one happen?

Also I have another issue which I just learned to accept which non the less is bugging me. Everytime I do an upload Actinic closes by itself after about 2 minutes of the first try. On reopening it uploads fine on the second try.

I have now created other sections in various positions and on compacting it places them in the second position.

I have been with Actinic since version 2 and today is the first time that I have googled ecommerce software. This is one that is bugging me as it now appears to be nothing to do with compacting the database but in fact everytime Actinic closes it reorders the sections.

Basically what this means is that we cannot add any new sections to the store unless we don't mind them be randomly ordered.

Whoops, sorry, need to read more carefully.

Owen, as far as I'm aware, the problem that you describe with section re-ordering isn't widespread. I'm getting someone to check if it's a known bug. Hopefully they will post here the results. I wonder if it could be down to some sort of corruption in your database. Have you raised it with support?

There were a lot of upload issues fixed in v9.0.4, so I think that it's highly likely that the problem you've got in that area will be fixed by upgrading. Since v9.0.5 has just gone on public beta, it might be worth waiting a few days and then upgrading to that one.

As far as I'm aware, there is no known bug that can cause random re-ordering of sections. As Chris says, it may well be some sort of corruption in your database. I think you need to contact support about that.

Upgrading to v9.0.4 probably will fix your upload issue, but it's worth waiting another couple of weeks for v9.0.5, to get the benefit of the fixes in that release at the same time.

FTR, I have this problem with a site in 9.0.4

Am about to investigate it in 9.0.5 but it's probably a database issue so unlikely to be any different.

I have actually had to create another section and transfer all the sub-sections to this new section to resolve this.

The order of sections / products within sections is determined by a number internally in the appropriate tables, I wonder if somehow your tables have got out of step. It might be worth checking the database or asking Actinic to do so - an experiment might be to make a new section and create products in it and see if the same problem happens in that one.

Actually from looking at your last posting it looks as if this might have been the case.

                          Hi Owen
Jan sells a sorting tool for Actinic, which works wonderfully
                          Try the version here: http://www.mole-end.biz/acatalog/downloads.html
It works a treat, and sorts out the database

My sorting tool resets all of the internal numbers, so if one of the sorting criteria matches your requirements (alphabetic, price, custom) then you could resolve the issue this way.

                            Cheers,

I have used a few of Jans products in the past and in fact had the V8 sorting tool. Since I have moved to Actinic v9 I have changed to single product pages. To be honest I don't want to fork out ££ on something that is possibly a bug.
