    Google Website Description

    Hi

I have noticed that Google has a website description for my site which appears under certain keyword searches and does not seem to relate to page title, meta descriptions or anything I can find within my Actinic site. For example if you search under kids clothes you will see my site listing around position 4 which the description "An online shop and high street store based in Herne Hill specialising in kids and baby clothes." Can anyone tell me where this description comes from?

    Thanks

I wonder if the explanation on this webpage might help:Editing Your Website Description On Google

    The relevant bit being:
    3) Perhaps the most frustrating scenario is when Google decides to use the description set for your website by the Open Directory Project (ODP).

You can tell whether this has happened by searching dmoz.org for your website and cross referencing the description. If it turns out that ODP is the source of your frustrations then you are in luck!

Just last year a new META tag was created which tells the search engines to no longer use your ODP description. Just place the following code with the other META tags on your page: <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP">
Having just done a search of dmoz.org and found the same description I would suggest this is your culprit.

You can place it just under the other meta tags.
