    Weird pages in Google index

    Hi,

We have been having a nightmare with Google over the last six months. I have just heard from the Google Webmaster Forum that we have a number of pages appearing in the index in the format as below:

    http://www.4little1s. com/cgi-bin/ss000001.pl?PRODREF=34&NOLOGIN=1.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
They advise these pages have some sort of meta redirect to 'proper' page and should be a 301 redirect to get the 'wrong' urls out of the index as they are duplicated or look to use a canonical tag.

'You have this /cgi-bin in your breadcrumb on every page ' -

    eg
www.4little1s. com | TOYS & MOBILES | Mobiles and book ends | Space mobile

The www.4little1s. com link should be looked at.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

......I thought these pages were created when someone adds something to basket and purchases though ?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    kind regards,

Take what is said on other forums with a pinch of salt as Actinic is a peculiar beast. The cgi-bin links come from the contact / search links and also the best sellers / new arrivals list.

You can prevent the cgi-bin being indexed but it is often best to leave alone as Google is very clever.

I would look elsewhere for Google issues and not these cgi-links TBH

Looking at the source code you have no H1 tags!!!!! As you have single product pages adding the <h1> tag around the ProductName would work wonders.

You also have a lot of duplicated links crammed into the page footer ... this can be seen as black hat spamming.

Ok thanks guys..I will give it a go. I have just created a robot.txt file to exclude indexing the cgi-bin....worth a try.
