Installing new version on same machine ?

    Hi,

If I have v7.0.6 installed on my winxp machine, what happens if I install a trial version of v9 on the same machine to check it out ?

Will it cause problems ? Or will it just install in a new folder and be OK.

Bit nervous, dont want to mess up my current v7 set up, but want to check out v9 and see what happens if I load up my v7 snapshot.

    Cheers

You should have no problems installing different versions on the same machine, I was using V7 while I redesigned the site using V9

Yes it will install in a completely different folder.

The usual recommendation if going from v7 to V9 to to start again from scratch as it is often easier than sorting out the problems created during an upgrade as V7 and V9 are very different

Make sure you put the new site into test mode though just in case you accidentally upload or download from it.

        Hi,

        Thanks for the advice.

Yes, I heard about the big difference between v7 and v9 but wanted to check out what would happen as I'm using a barely modified template.

        Thanks.

Martin, if you are using a barely mofified template it's still best to use the equivalent templates in v9 and re-apply any changes. That way all of the new features in v8/v9 should be fully available.

v8/v9 has a hard learning curve, but once people are over it my experience is that they greatly prefer v8/v9 to v7.

            Hi Chris,

Ok, thanks for the advice, I'll try it that way.
