Product Feed with Reference

I am setting up a new store of which my supplier is going to send me updated prices via a CSV file when required. I am happy with the whole concept of getting actinic not to generate product references and using my supplier's product reference to update the prices via an import.

My problem is that some of their product references are longer than 20 characters (longest I have seen so far is 25). Is there anyway to increase this value from the default 20 characters? Or is it just a case of updating these prices manually?

I'm afraid it cannot be extended above 20 characters as it will require a change in the code itself. I checked if a database hack will be possible but unfortunately just that wont do.
