    Unableto print in Actinic V9

    Good afternoon.

I've done a search, but to no avail. I wondered if someone can help?

My new website has just gone 'live'. I'm trying to print off the invoices for customers. I'm also using the Mole End single peel off label paper.

I can 'print preview' okay, but when I go to print this comes up....

    Error in File C:\Program Files (x86)\Actinic v9\Invoices.rpt:
    No default printer.

The printer is selected in the control panel.

When I go to 'file' (top left) an then go to 'print set up', I get no response at all. No do I in the 'page set up' window where you see print preview.

I'm a new business and I do need this to be working right away. I have orders to send.

    Can anyone please help?

    Many thanks.
    Graham

Similar problems have come up before. A search for "No default printer" should show the discussions and fixes.

Have you selected a printer within Actinic?

Invoice > Standard Report > 'Printer setup' in the pop-up.

The printer set up is not greyed out in the pop up, but it's not linking to anything when I click on it.

Have you tried the suggestions in this thread http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=41827 ?

            It sounds very similar.

              Thanks for the help.

However, I've still not got anywhere! I've un-installed Actinic V9 and re-installed it. I've done the same with the printer driver. Still no good.

Did you try deleting the registry key and / or switching of UAC as suggested in the thread?

                  Mike.

                  Thanks for your help.

After going through several of the methods in the thead you provided the link for and going through several UAC disabling methods. One eventually worked!

Control Panel-User Accounts, Turn UAC On and Off.

This has disabled the UAC and I can now print through Actinic and I can select print set up in the file menu and on the pre print pop up.

I don't know if the UAC being off will have an adverse effect on my computor or not?

Thanks for the links. It's really appreciated.

Apologies, as this topic seems to have been covered earlier this year. But I was at my wits end! I do understand forum etiquette as I'm very actice on another forum, and know how annoying it is when the same questions keep popping up from newbies!

                  Thanks.

                    Hi Graham,

No problem. I think this printer / UAC problem is fairly rare and I'm not at all clear on what is really happening to casue it.

I think User Access Control (UAC) is essentially Vista limiting users access to software / resources to ones that they have permission to access. I suspect that in this kind of case the software is being run under a different user than installed (admin) and this might be confusing / blocking actinic as to which printer it should be using.

If I'm right, then logging in as admin might also solve the problem.

For security, it's generally best to have UAC enabled and not to use admin all the time as in theory that limits hackers ability to take over your PC by installing new software. Whether this really helps or not is not something I can answer.
