    ftp problems

Hi, we have found that we cannot upload any changes to our website at all. We have compacted databases, purged everything that can be purged, tested our broadband speeds which are ok, double checked our ftp site which is working fine, but still, the moment we try to upload and Actinic needs to create the remote directory, it times out. I've tested the network connections in Actinic and it attempts to connect, but can't. We double checked all the usernames and passwords, which are all correct. Anybody any ideas why it will not upload, but does download without any problems? Help is much needed here as I need to upload a lot of new stuff and price changes, but can't. We use V8.

    Thanks

    Ian

Have you uploaded the site before? Check the /acatalog/ directory online is set to permission "755" using your FTP software.

        Hi,

Actinic runs through it's normal checks before trying to create the remote directory, but always fails to do so. I get the message "An FTP error occurred, the connection timed out"
It kind of leaves me with nowhere to go, doesn't it?

the site has been active for about 3 years now, and never a problem. Now this...

The hosts may have done soemthing (which they think is benign).. when you FTP to the site what do the permissions say on the acatalog folder... they should be "755".

Do you have any other ftp sites you can try to check if it an FTP access problem to all sites or just your website.

I had a problem around 18 months ago where FTP access was blocked by my ISP after exceeding the months usage allowance, although I could still browse at a reduced speed until the end of the billing cycle.

ok, that problem is now sorted, I can access the ftp site now. It's an as yet unknown problem with F-secure. So disabled that, and bingo, uploads no problem, but, when merging the files, I now constantly get the error message that it cannot read from "from" file?

                    Hi again,

thanks for the comments, tips etc. Don't know what happened, switched the PC off and on again, clicked the upload button, and everything went perfectly. Let's hope it stays that way! Thanks again
