    Componet Problem?

    Hi all,

I have just stumbled onto a problem that is a real headache:

In a paint section I have many colours, each colour has a Component named 'Select Bottle Size' and within the component I then have Attributes of 1oz, 2oz etc and different prices.

In V6 I used to be able to make one of these on product number 1 in the list and then, simply copy>paste down thru my long list of paint colours and then simply edit the choice names and prices in the components etc.

While working on the last furlong now of the upgrade to V9 I decided it would be easier (as prices have been changed from supplier recently) to simply 'cut' all the old components etc, make a new top one and then paste them all down the list (like i used to) and then edit prices etc.

But, I was presented with a warning window telling me I would have duplicates and it simply won't let me do it? I have even tried just creating a new Component under the first one on the first product and naming it manually 'Select Bottle size' (same as the one already there) and it won't let me do that either?

The strange thing is that I did this easily in V6 as I have lots of very similar products with similar Components etc. The existing sets of paint products already have the original component names and they are ALL the same but it won't let me make a new one or paste an existing one now if it has the same name?? (in this case, 'Select Bottle Size')

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    BTW, the actual message says:

'There is already a component with that name. Please choose another one.'

      Weird!

Well, what seems to have happened here is that although I 'CUT' the Component from the product it was invisibly still there? I changed the name to 'Select Bottle Size1' just so i could make a Component work, pasted a Choice from the next product down and like magic, the original Component re-appeared in the list??

it seems the reason I couldn't ADD the new component was because the old one was still there but invisible somehow - just hadn't 'cut' itself away properly from that product.

A bit odd that, but it's OK now anyway. I'll have to look out for that happening again and it seems that now I can't do quickly what I planned to do all along? does anyone know why it may have not removed from the product even though the 'cut' command was used and seemed to disappear?

compacting the database often sorts this type of prblem. its a good idea to do it every now abd again as a precautionary measure.

            searching properties

I want to search on properties controlled and updated via external data spreadsheet. it only works with an initial data dragged from unallocated!

The property is only updated when unallocated data is dragged in. subsequent changes to the spreadsheet are not registered within the actinic data.

I have thousands of items and want to update the properties via the spreadsheet which is more efficient.
