    site snapshot

Recently when creating a site snapshot i have found that the desktop logo created is infact a notepad document. The document consists of masses of technical data and does not generate the web site. To open the web site I have to click on the Actinic logo! Any ideas what is wrong? Thanks

I've read that 5 times and haven't the foggiest what you are on about, can you shed some further light on what you mean? You create a snapshot and that creates a desktop logo, that makes no sense i'm afraid.

Snapshots are usually found in c:\program files\actinic v9\sitebackups and not on the desktop. However if you have deliberately saved the file to the desktop make sure it still has the acd extension. You open these files through the Actinic software using the File->Snapshot->import options on the menu bar.

Opening a .acd file with notepad will look like a file full of technical stuff, it is actually a form of zip file.

It creates a logo on my desktop, i used to be able to click on that to open up my site to make necessary changes, view orders etc. Now when i click on it it opens up a note pad document.

It's 'logo on my desktop' that is confusing me. Are you talking about an icon? If you've asked for the file to be placed on the desktop, it will be ending in .acd and you will never have clicked that to open up actinic, that's an impossibility.

A snapshot is just a file full of all the things that make your site up, see it as a backup. There's a tutorial on my site about them if you're not too clear on what they are.

Do you mean that you take a snapshot and save it to your desktop with a name of (for example) sitename.acd and that when you double click on this file on your desktop it opens in WordPad (or similar) and that all the contents are gobbledegook?
You can't read the contents of the .acd file

What do you mean by "does not generate the website"?

The logo (icon) on your desktop which should be a square with the Actinic logo in it is put there by the installation of Actinic. This is the icon you would click on to open up the Actinic software to make the changes, it is not generated by the snapshot.

By the sound of it the shortcut to which this icon is attached has been corrupted, to start the software open startup then programs and then look for Actinic, and then click on Actinic V9.

Do es this make sense to you ?
