Actinic v9.05 running on Windows7 (64bit) upload problem

Actinic Designer v9.05 running on Windows7 (64bit)

I upgraded to Windows7 earlier in the week and I am trying to upload one of my sites. The upload stops whilst checking the html pages and the catalog without any kind of error message. It does not crash, does not give any error message, and does not terminate Actinic.

Anybody else experienced any similar problems?

not with windows 7 but this problem occurs with other flavours.

Did you upgrade to 7 or clean install, there is a problem with some upgrades, not everything works as it should.

With regards your problem, i had this with a site on xp and vista. It was a DB problem just would not function, snapshots worked on one pc with xp but not on vista never did get to the bottom of it

I did a clean install on a new partition - saw it as an opportunity to get rid of a lot of clutter.

I've done some further testing and it seems to be intermittant - some times it works, some times it does not. I cannot see a pattern at the moment.

To be honest I had a problem with this site crashing on upload on Vista (x64) but it worked ok on XP. I'm pretty sure that it is due to a couple of duff records on the DB as well.

How many products do you have?

We had a problem with this - due to lots of products (3000+). Actinic are now aware and gave us a work round, although this has made updating sections very slow.

I have been struggling with Windows XP for some time:
Version 9.05, 25,000 products
Running on a Dell Laptop with not enough memory - works fine on the server.
I got so fed up, I went to Tesco, bought a new Toshiba laptop (£399) and WOW
Installed the programs, used Easy Transfer to transfer all my settings
Uploads thet used to take most of the night, take just over 2 hours
Most of the problems, complained elsewhere, just disapeared
e.g click on a product to delete it, less than a second.
Previously, I had to wait 10 minutes for it to register, or delve into the database to delete.

Hi Howard - no problem with my PC as I have a quad core cpu and 4Gb of memory. I was previously running Vista 64bit.

Still awaiting a reply from Actinic cover.

After further investigation, I've found that this problem affects all 4 sites that I have got set-up. Having to run everything from my dilapidated old XP laptop.

I also seem to have some strange things happen on uploading to the new pc when refreshing site using windows 7 with a clean install on quad 64 bit, it even deleted the 3 new orders it was trying to bring in, also minimizing some new windows (in the software, not windows 7) or placing them out out sight. strange.

I was about to install V9 on my new Windows 7 (32 bit) but Actinic Support advised me against it, saying it was not compatible yet. I have asked for details on when this might be ready.

So, I'm having to reinstall back on my old XP machine (having uninstalled it). Quick question though - having reinstalled Actinic on my old machine - do I just import my last site back up or must I copy over my entire Site1 folder (which I have on an external drive) ?

Perhaps I should risk installing on Windows 7 and see how it goes and report any issues here?

Dorian - If you took a snapshot you can just import this as it contains the database, all of your images etc.

If my memory serves me correctly a site backup only backs up the database and therefore you would have to copy over the contents of your site1 folder first before importing the backup.

If Actinic have advised against it I would not use it in a live environment, only a test environment.

I've upgraded our Vista machine to windows 7 over the weekend.
Luckily (it seems) our Vista machine is our order DOWNLOAD and processing machine and, so far, everything works fine.
The increased speed that it completes orders (using one click order completion) is phenominal! No kidding.
It used to take approx 1 minute to 'think about' completing and churn the first invoice (or a batch of 3 at a time, often) out. It'd often take 5-10 minutes to complete/print a batch.
This morning, it spat out ALL the invoices at me before I'd even had time to print one label!
I'm not upgrading our upload/design machine yet as it uses XP and hasn't given us the same speed/performance issues (generally, not in Actinic) as the Vista one did so it's not as urgent.

Oh, and a warning for anyone who books out with Parcelforce and wants to use Windows 7. Their website currently isn't compatible and won't let you

Thanks - in the end I reinstalled back on to a new HD with XP reisntalled on it. I dual boot to XP to print out orders etc. and then switch back to Windows 7 for day to day stuff.

I also imported the entire Site 1 folder into the Site folder on the new copy as I first tried importing just the snapshot (which was about half the size - so shows how much stuff I had there but was no longer using) but none of my downloadabel PDF's appeared. Maybe I could just have added these back in, but I wasn't sure what else might have been missing.

However, I received a general script error after doing a website refresh and Support told me to do a total purge and refresh, but first to copy my modified perl scripts and store these elsewhere while I did the purge and then import them back in. Having done this all seems to work fine.

Dorian - PDF's, along with a few other file types, are not added to the snapshots - this has been a long standing problem - will Actinic ever get this sorted?

What I do is to add them to the Additional Files under the Design tab, to ensure that they are backed up.
