    who me?
    *shrugs and goes to check*

    ermm yeh. Normal 32bit jobbie.

Still doesn't work though (luckily it's only our order processing machine so doesn't have to upload)

Might transfer current design machine snapshot over sometime this week and see if I can spend a bit more time finding and eliminating possible conflicts.

hmmm weird how it seems to be the same / similar problem on both 32 & 64 bit versions.

seems to say more of a problem with win 7 and actinic as opposed to 32 & 64 bit differences

and sorry yes you you only need 64bit if you want more than 3.25 gb ram or for applications that might require it

        That's interesting.
the laptop in question does have 4gb ram (bought new like that) but only came with 32bit install of Vista
        Is that normal?

yes its quite common, im not sure exactly what the 32 bit version does with the bits it cant use and some say max is 4gb some say 3.5gb but i have always been told 3.25gb was the max.

Im sure someone more techy than me can explain

Having similar problems after upgrading to Windows 7. It is very intermitent when uploading. Usually slows up when sending base files, never did it on Vista.

            See thread http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=46067

W7 32 bit will report 4Gb installed but only 3Gb usable. In fact all 4Gb is 'seen' and is addressed but around 800Mb is reserved for system use, leaving the balance for programs.

A 32 bit processor can only address a maximum of 4Gb. If you want more memory you have to have a 64 bit processsor.

We have found the same on W7, drops out half way through checking files and produces random errors. But shutting down compacting the database and rebooting the computer and upload first thing after restart, it goes through fine.

I did disable the AVG resident shield yesterday and it uploaded fine without a compact/reboot, are you using AVG anti virus ?

That would explain the different amounts quoted, so the max is 4gb but you need around 0.8gb for system resources hence the 3.25gb i was always told.

Now Tracey did you get all that

Definately seems to be the common cause - maybe this happens with other antivirus software and firewalls?

definately the 1st thing to do is turn them all off and see if the problem exists. I dont use AVG i use NOD32 and so far a win7 upgrade on the laptop has not stopped actinic running it is fine

                      Hi,

Forgot to mention that I did get rid of AVG and am now using AVAST. This has made it a lot better, but not removed the problem all together, it still does it now and again, just not as much.

                      Regards,

                      Nigel

Hi - Just spoken to a client who is running v8.5.2 and has just upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows XP.

He has had problems with the upload window disappearing whilst uploading his site. This has turned out to be his firewall - Agnitum Outpost Firewall - or the way Actinic interfaces to it.

He is able to upload his site by disabling the firewall.
                          Regards
                          David

Can you guys let me know where you downloaded your 'clean install' from?
In the download centre i can only find an 'upgrade' download link.

                              i have new PC. Win97 64bit.
                              Previously. Win Vista.
