    erm, who's got my home page ? . . .

sorry for the poor title, i'll try to word things better as i learn promise . . .

here's the scenario . . . a friend of one of the business partners set the basics up of our actinic site for us, they designed the front page, with dreamweaver apparently, and although it 'shows' on the net, it doesn't within the actinic software i have on the machine i use at work. i.e, i can't 'see' it in the tree, i can see all the products i've put on, and the 'home' icon is at the top of the tree but i can't get to, or alter the content - rather embarrasingly seeing as it's live, the 'home' button doesn't work and the three 'special offers' on the front page that don't go to the actuall products! (wasn't my idea to set it live yet )

when i am within actinic, and i can see the front page in design view, at the top of the box it says 'this page has been deleted'

do i assume that they (the designers) have some sort of a 'template' made in dreamweaver that they haven't given me yet? and if they have, when or maybe, if, i get it, what would i need to get to be able to alter it? do we need to buy dreamweaver? anything else? it's a long story and from what i gather the guy's on the verge of going bump, which doesn't help me at all as he doesn't answer his phone and the last mail took two weeks to answer . . .

my knowledge of what i'm trying to explain is patchy at the best lol, sorry, i've only ever 'made' a holding page in frontpage once and it was a miracle that i managed that and made it work so i'm presuming as i can't find what i think i should have or be able to see, i'm missing some 'content' that i should be able to see in actinic?

or am i way off the mark here???

Your home page has been created outside of actinic, therefore you cannot manage it from within actinic. If you want it to now come and be part of actinic, then read the tutorial on my site about brochure pages and create it within actinic. If you don't, then administer that page using a tool of your choice (probably DW as you allude) completely outside of actinic, you'd FTP up to the site and download it off the server to get a copy.

thank you lee, you've explained that in nice bite sized chunks. i presume as it's been created in that format then i'd be better to keep it as is so ill think along the latter part of your answer. there are lots of 'things' this guys meant to have done that haven't been finished so we might as well buy the program so at least we have control and i'll just have to learn how to use that as well lol.

ah well, in for a penny, in for a pound as they say . . . . just as well i actually enjoy learning new things, er with no choice lol
