    Home page design question

a bit new at all this so easy on me if this is a daft question or i've missed something . . . .

i've been mooching around the net looking at prices, i know there are lots of different versions of this software (dreamweaver) but i only need to be able to alter the basic offers on our home page and swap images around, it has been created in DW, not by me, bu ti will need future control over the content.

    found this place: http://www.specialtysoftware.co.uk/A...oduct_249.html

seems to be a lot cheaper that i can find anywhere else, does it have all the features i need to do what io want to be able to do? we also have photoshop 6 if that helps, pardon my lack of, i'm a learner lol

insert L plate gif here for me please lol >

    thank you

you can do all you want within actinic, no need for DW or any extra software.

create the index page as an actinic brochure page and use the best sellers or new product marketing list to display on the index

now i am lost . . . i was told that because the home page had been designed outside of actinic that they were two different things altogether, i think actinic told me this. i don't want to change the design of the front page i just want to be able to swap and change the things around as offers come and go, i was under the impression that out homepage was some sort of DW file that you had to open up in that program to be able to change it, then you uploaded it again, or is that not how it works?

i am saying if you want to manage the front page the page does not need to be in DW. it will be easier for you to dump the DW page and create one using actinic ie index using brochure page

          Are you referring to traffordangling.co.uk?

If so your home page is already within Actinic.

hello and thanks for the replies. i was told by actinic that i couldn't recreate that exact home page, which is how we want it to look, in actinic because the design software isn't that ellaborate, or that's how i understood the answer.

i fully appreciate that it would be better and easier, especially for me, if it was all 'in house' and that's a great idea but i don't have the design knowledge to do it, i am however happy enough to learn, but apparently i can't recreate that page so that's why i was asking about DW.

it's not a great situation that i have to rely on someone else to do the updates and to be honest it's making it hard work as i'm wasting time.

animal dreams, yes it is, the bit i don't get is if the page is there why can't i change it like the products i'm putting in? i understand it's a different 'page' from a product and i also understand that if it was created in a different program it makes sense you'd have to alter it in that same program, surely?

maybe i'm not fully understanding what i'm being told but i'm on a learning curve to say the least here and a bit in at the deep end lol, i do appreciate
all your replies though, thank you.

Is this again for [LINK]? because it doesn't look elaborate to me.

If you need help see the designer directory link.

You can make the home page of an actinic site look like anything you want to, the only limit is html, css and actinic experience. As you are lacking somewhat in that area at the moment, you probably have 3 choices:
                1. Learn html, css and actinic
                2. Manage the homepage in dreamweaver where it is at the moment
                3. Pay a professional to do it for you

I think a couple of days training at Actinic will be useful for you. You should be able to gain enough knowledge to be able to understand the basics and then decide whether you want to do it yourself or get someone to do it for you.

Dave, what exactly are you trying to change?

In your content tree, you should see a house at the very top? That's your home page.

yes it is, i was told as it had the black into grey into black L+R bars and the moving (swf?) file that i couldn't reproduce this in actinic design.

the 'home' icon is there, there isn't a cross i can expand and in the design view page preview it says '
preview page - this page has been deleted
fragments seems to be exactly the word i was looking for and the thing i seem to be missing.

i'd love some training to save having to ask all these questions

maybe i'd be able to describe this better so you'd all understand what i'm on about lol, all i want to be able to 'access' for now would be the 'fragments' making the page up, i.e change the offers as they come and go, swap some of the logo's for better ones like the actinic payments logo and the paypal logo, oh, and add some snowflakes for christmas lol . . . . .

but, i can't get at it, i really wish they would have had someone 'proper' design it now rather than a 'mate', it's making this hard work but only for me!

If there are no fragments I'm wondering whether maybe someone has just applied a template to that page which includes the central design and not set up the area properly to be managed by Actinic.
ahaaaaa . . . . . this is what i think i've been trying to put into words, i know he's done something along those lines and template was the only way i could describe it, as for the latter part of your reply, does that mean i could get someone to 'import' that page and set it all up so it is all within actinic?

Read the brochure page tutorial on my site, if things are still baffling you after that, i think you will either need training or to get someone else to do it for you i'm afraid. If you get someone to do it for you, you can then take a look and learn from it.

lee i have read through your pages a couple of times and they are very clear and well explained pages that even makes sense to me lol, i'va actually got the culprit responsible coming here thursday (if he shows up) but from what i gather he didn't design it, he just told someone to that works for him.

i'll put this to him but i really don't think he'll actually know the answer, he's a gaffer not an employee so god help me.

There's no point purchasing Dreamweaver when it's currently an Actinic page, it's there it's just not set up quite right that's all.
i like this line of thought, and i'd rather not involve this guy any more if i can help it, i call him PITA for short lol, where do i look or who can i speak to about sorting this out. and more to the point, how much would it cost 'cos i've got to run this lot past the powers that be . . . . .
