Select the home page and check what the overall layout is set to on the layout tab. Do the same on a section, ideally they want to be the same, if not try changing the home page to what the sections are, BUT remember what it was in case you need to switch back.

Lee, the home page is set to design wizard outer layout for the brochure page layout, the brochure fragment list layout is set to standard brochure fragment list and the fragment layout says 'test2' whatever that is.
the overall page layout for a section is the same but the fragment layout is fragment layout using CSS.
i get the feeling 'test2' isn't going to be an actinic built in setting is it . . . .

Louise, thanks for that link and your help, i'm going to put this to my little friend if he appears on thursday and see if their lot can sort it out as the problem really is theirs . . . .
i do however remember the chap who actually came and set it up on my machine telling me it was the first time they'd worked with actinic so i suppose none of this should come as a surprise to you lol.

TBH i'd get someone like Lee, Peblaco, Duncan etc to bring your home page into actinic, i dont think it would be a huge job. Whilst they are doing that, they can give the whole setup the once over. Get it right now and save yourself a huge amount of time and grief for the future. Unless pita will do the above for free, dont bother with him as his learning curve will cost and you are better spending your cash with someone who knows what they are doing.
And then go on the actinic design course and self manage in the future.

i'll do exactly that, i'll have words and explain i want it all managed by actinic and see if they have someone there that knows how to do it, 'cos i don't even know if they have at this stage . . . and if not, rest assured, i'll be back lol
many thanks for all your replies, i appreciate your help.
