Anyway of blocking a product duplicate from product group

Hi I have a layout (for sidebar) that displays products when they are in a particular product group.

is there anyway I can stop product duplicates appearing in the same list?

i should mentition i mean block without creating a custom variable if possible.

I've looked around in the forum but can't find anything as yet,

Use the productType variable, it denotes a product, fragment or duplicate, by 0, 1 or 2. I can't recall the order though so you'll have to find that bit out yourself.
