    Multi Site

    Hi,

Im new to all this actinic thing and simple as I know it can be, in the learning process, we are having problems and hair tearing sessions..

We are running 3 sites for us and one site for a customer, all with the same products, so what we are wanting is to when we change something on one site we have to upload to all other three, which we do with a snapshot, when the option of 'just upload catalogue comes up' we click that, but find that all the network settings change to the site we have just taken the snapshot of, we only want to upload the products, it seems very drawn out if we have to change back each sites network settings every time.
Before realising this, one site has the others orders downloaded on to it and we have sent the same customers the orders twice on quite a few occasions
This is just one of many questions I have and while I wait for tech support to get back to me on just some of the questions, I thought Id try the forum too..

I can only guess that you are using a single site edition of actinic. I think you need Business Plus

Codepath do a plugin that will do the job for you, look at site clone. In combination with multi-site it has all you need.

If all you are doing is running three sites with business plus, all using the same products, then you can just cut and paste the product between sites

What it sounds like you are doing is making a copy (snapshot) of one site and then transfering all information to the others , which will make three exact copies

This is not good for SEO as google will take a poor view of duplicate sites, Much better to have one master site with all products and then the other two specialising in a sub section of the master something like

        Master site
        "Cars"
        Productes all car makes

        Site 2
        "Ford Cars"
        Products all Ford cars

        Site 3
        "Lotus Cars"
        Products all Lotus cars

This way although you are using part of the product range you are not seen as duplicating, and you get three bites of the cherry

Sorry Yes, we are using business plus.

So as I understand it, I have to change each product on each site rather than use a snapshot?
Thanks in advance for any remarks

nothing stops you having an external database (ms-access and so on) to hold the descriptions, prices and so on, and then use the field-linking facility to maintain the data in just one place.

just do not duplicate the whole site.

As mentioned by Nigel and Jo, our Siteclone plug-in does exactly what you need. Please feel free to contact me either via the forum or our website if you wish to discuss further.

                  Thanks Andy,

I'll look that, getting to grips with actinic is hard enough and then Im going to have a look at more software to use!

Signed up for actinic tech support too, sent a list of questions in (only 9), rang up 6 days after it was sent, guy said he's send the replies the next day (last friday) still waiting!!
Thanks in advance for any remarks

                    Hi Dan,

Great to speak to you earlier and I hope I was able to solve the queries that you had. The reason the email took a bit longer than expceted was due to the multiple issues you requested

If we dont speak before , have a great Christmas.

                    Neil
