    Scanning Order no: barcodes

    Hi all

We have just had the "Order no" barcode added to our invoice and we are trying to make it scan but are having problems.

Using a Metrologic MS9520 handheld scanner, it fails to pickup the barcode that Actinic creates.

Other barcodes all read fine. We have tried the scanner on a wide range of standard product barcodes (e.g. off backs of books etc), and also Royal Mail Special Delivery stickers. These all read fine so we know the scanner works perfectly however it doesn't even pick-up (let alone translate) the Actinic created barcodes.

I don't think it is to do with barcode length as the red line (created by the scanner) covers the barcode's width.

Has anyone else had any trouble setting up barcode scanning?

Could you post an image of one of the barcodes to see if others can scan it?

There are a number of possibilities that may cause this but the most likely is that the code is truncated.

I'll be sending you a test sheet with a number of barcodes on to test with your scanner.

UPDATE: The barcode was indeed truncated.

Sorted... the barcode was truncated. It is working perfectly now!

Paul - could you post why the barcode was truncated and what the solution was?

          Thanks

I have created customised reports for KJBeckett and the barcode was a new addition to the invoice report. Unfortunately when adding the barcode for the order number I did not leave sufficient space for the full length of the required order number. Widening it stopped the truncation and hence allowed it to be read correctly.

              Thanks Duncan

I'm interested in barcodes as a way of controlling/identifying stock on one of our sites - hence the interest
