    Stock control mix'n match

Apologies if this is a really basic question

I want to be able to include certain products in the in-built stock control but exclude others so they remain available to purchase on-line regardless of quantity.

Is there an option to optionally include certain products (the minority of items) in the quantity based stock control whilst having all other products using the 'default' option of being excluded from stock control?

First thing is that you need to be aware that it is not true stock control. It is stock monitoring. There is a difference.

On the Stock tab on a product, the "Stock Monitoring" tick box is cleared by default (I think?). You just need to tick that box for the products that you want to monitor stock for and then complete the other boxes on that tab.

Stock monitoring is switched on and off on the product itself, so yes it can be set to only be on some products. Select the "stock" tab on the product .

Thanks for your reply chaps. Stock monitoring? Surely if an item reduces to 0 quantity from orders through the shop since the last order download, when a customer tries to add that item to their basket a message should be displayed stating the item has sold out?

Or is it not that dynamic?

It's not dynamic, but it will be in V10. Until the orders are downloaded and the site is then uploaded, the stock levels are not known online (after a sale has been made).

Actinic produces static html pages at the moment.

The html page might know that there are 5 units to sell (for example) but it doesn't record how many have been sold - and will potentially keep on allowing stock to be sold until the page is replaced. The stock monitoring bit happens when you download the orders and process them, thereby decrementing the stock figure on your PC, and uploading your site again with the new stock figures.

Even if you have Actinic set up to download/process/upload every minute, it is possible to over sell.
