    How to retrieve site

The PC holding an actinic site has crashed and unfortunately the last few days orders had not been backed up. The hard drive is still ok, so is there a way of getting the details and transfer them to another pc?

Alternatively, is there a way of getting the data from the host server files?

    cheers

Install Actinic (same version as was on your original PC) onto your new PC.
    Import your latest snapshot.
With Actinic closed copy the database from the Site1 folder on the old PC over to the new PC and overwrite the one on the new PC.
    Open Actinic.

Keep your fingers crossed and it will work.

You cannot recover Actinic from the server other than copying and pasting from the pages.

Unfortunately not. If the hard drive is still OK, then the data should be retrievable from there I would have thought.

Where do I find the database in that folder - IE is there a standard file name?

It's called ActinicCatalog - an Access database

You'll probably want to copy over everything in the site1 folder. Not just the database. The database doesn't include things like images etc.

You also might have difficulty downloading existing orders from the server. I can't remember where the encryption keys are stored but I suspect they're kept in the registry or somewhere so there's a chance Actinic won't be able to decrypt the order and payment details.

For future use, it always wise to keep a copy of the registration and security keys just in case.

              Found the database, thanks.

              @olderscot.
When you say existing orders, do you mean the ones still to be processed or also the ones which havn't yet been downloaded onto the hopefully soon to work new PC.

If you first import your latest snapshot before copying over the database (or Site1 folder) then you shouldn't have issues with your security keys.

Sorry, Duncan's correct. If you have a snapshot to import first then that will correctly setup the registration and encryption keys and import all the files you need. All you need to do in this case is copy over the database to bring the orders database up to date.

These would be new orders on the server that haven't been downloaded yet. Actinic encrypts these to hide the contents from prying eyes. Once they're in the database they're no longer encrypted.

Many thanks for all the help..

Followed the import order suggested and site now working on second PC, and no orders lost. Downloaded new ones ok.

                    cheers
