    123-reg and web forwarding

hello folks, changed our .com domain to 123-reg and a little unsre what the settings should be for forwarding.

as i understand it actinic (our hosts) don't use dns and the choices i had were:

No web-forwardingIf you select this option anyone typing traffordangling.com into a web browser will be shown the 123-Reg default page.

Framed web-forwarding to a single page

If you select web-forwarding to a single page the destination URL can have a specific filename on the end (e.g. index.htm).
It could just point to a directory (URL ends with /) in which case the files displayed would depend on the webserver 'directory index' settings.
The destination URL will be replaced by yoururl.com.

    Non-framed web-forwarding to a single page

This option is the same as above however the destination URL will always be displayed in the address bar of the browser.

    Framed web-forwarding

The destination URL will be replaced by traffordangling.com

    Non-framed web-forwarding
The destination URL will remain in the browser's address bar.

i went for this last choice, it was a guess cos i haven't a clue but it sounded about right

    did i do good? please say yes . . . .

sorry i forgot to add that all i want to do is to forward people to our .co.uk address if they type in .com.

should do the job perfectly well, forward your domain.com to your domain.co.uk

          sadly my elation was a bit premature . . . .

hasn't worked and it isn't pointing to the .co.uk address, as we are hosted by Actinic can anyone tell me if i have to add the .com domain in the plesk control panel?

or should i have selected a different option in 123-reg?

          thank you

            Hi Dave,

That option should work. Did you set up the destination url in 123-reg?

Odd because I just tried it with a domain of my own and it's pretty instantaneous. I did use the full http://www.etc.co.uk as the destination address just as you did.

                I wonder why your's isn't working.

                Mike

Edit: I just checked your headers and there's no sign of any forwarding. All I get is

                #1 Server Response: http://www.traffordangling.com/
HTTP Status Code: HTTP/1.1 200 OK

aaahhh could that be the problem? in 123-reg it says currently managing
                  traffordangling.com and not www.trafford. . . . . . ???

There doesn't seem to be any forwarding on traffordangling.com without the www. either. (see my edits above about the header responses).

That's also what the 123-reg forwarding page says for me as well.

Let me try something else to check. Back in a minute.

                    Mike

Edit: OK. I'm back. this work for me. Try this http://www.3f-tackle.co.uk/ I can't think why it doesn't for you.

just in case, I tried a .com domain and that works as well.

                      http://www.3f-tackle.com

All I can suggest is that you re-enter the destination address and check your spellings. It all seems to work for me.

I had to set-up web forwarding with 123-reg yesterday and was advised on the other forum to reset the nameservers to the default 123-reg nameservers as they were pointing to the nameservers of my hosting.

I changed the name servers to:
                          ns.123-reg.co.uk
                          ns2.123-reg.co.uk

and also went to 'Manage DNS' and clicked on 'Reset DNS to default'
by the next morning web forwarding was working perfectly.

who is it you use for hosting though? we're using actinic hosting and as i understand it they don't use name servers, i'll give it a go by all means but i just don't want to make it any worse than it is lol

If you want to try making any changes make a note of the settings before hand so you can change back after.

I use Clook Internet for hosting and not actinic hosting.
