    Interesting VAT problem

I had an order from Australia.

The sales total was £14.50 plus £5 for shipping so the order total was £19.50

Because Australian orders are VAT exempt a customer paid £16.95.

Now, when I downloaded this order its payment status shows as 'Partial payment' received. In Payments tab it shows as £2.55 (which was VAT deducted) outstanding.

In 'Totals' tab the 'Original' order details are fine but in 'Current' VAT details are missing.

Any one has an idea what's happening here? It's just £2.55 but I see no reason why I should pay it to the tax man! I tried to place an order for exactly same amount, downloaded it and it's fine, VAT is deducted as it should be, just this one order behaving this way.

    Any help much appreciated

    Hi, it's me again.

I hope someone will be able to shed some light on it as I found some other orders that did not apply VAT properly.

My first VAT return is due later this month and I rely on Actinic to tell me an amount I owe to VAT man

I have a few of this orders:

The original total is fine and shows VAT correctly and then for some reason 'Current' is showing 0. I have few of this orders as far as I can see but I have no way of telling how many

    Please help

which version of Actinic are you using?? (my money is pre-905)

      Check out THIS THREAD
I'm betting it's the same problem. Upgrading to 9.0.5 WILL fix it

If the site in question is the one in the public profile (fabricinspirations) I think she is on V9.0.5 as the ver.fil file on the site says '9 JHZA'

Many thanks for your replies. Interesting read this post. That's the exact problem I am having.

Tracey do you still get this problem or has 9.0.5 fixed it for you?

Interestingly I am not using any components/permutations/associated products as described in this thread. I am on v9.0.5 and the problem seems to be entirely random, just few orders are affected as far as I can see but I am not able to check them all and my VAT return is due in a couple of weeks time.

It's very frustrating that this bug goes back to June last year and we have January now and v9.0.5 and I am facing the same problem

Not mentioning that my Actinic crashes at least 1000 a day...

since upgrading the 9.0.5, we do not have this problem on ANY of our orders.
Does it happen from the moment it is downloaded or does it happen when you go back into an existing order?
My advice would be log a support ticket NOW and reference this thread.

If Actinic is continually crashing then it's very likely you have a database problem that needs addressing. Certainly time to raise a support ticket with Actinic.

I believe it happens to existing orders as I don't recall having a problem with this Australian order at first and only when it was completed, invoice printed and posted I found it again in 'Pending' tab with it's status re-set to 'Partial Payment Received'. I mentioned this issue to Support so will see what happens...

I sent my snapshot to Actinic but they cannot see a problem i.e. it doesn't crash when they run it!

It used to crash only when I was switching between two sites and then about 3 weeks ago started to crash after every other upload, sometimes more often, and I don't know why. I've not done anything to the site other than adding some new products.

I am also getting this on daily basis after closing actinic and compacting databases:

Have you tried doing a complete re-installation of the Actinic software.

I only upgraded to 9.0.5 about a month ago. I moved to a better computer and at first was really impressed with Actinic's performace but after about a week started to have crashes on upload.

The orders I mentioned in my previous posts with wrong VAT calculations were taken already on 9.0.5.

                      My life is becoming miserable

When did the problems start? I'm just wondering if it could be related to the change in VAT rates and whether you've run the actinic VAT fix script?

Did you change any of your VAT settings recently? Perhaps rename the VAT or change the country settings at all?

I'd be looking in the database to see what VAT rate (name, etc) had been set for these orders. One of the problems with Actinic is that opening an order and looking at an item will change the VAT assigned if the rate has been changed.

Yes, I was going to say that, Mike.

Presumably, you've changed your VAT rate back to 17.5%?
Is it only happening to pre-1st January orders that you are opening?

I'd bet that it doesn't happen to orders placed since the VAT rate changed.
It's likely that you need to run the VAT fix script (as mentioned by Mike)

It's fairly prominent in the Knowledgebase, if you need to download and sort it

It's a really strange one. Luckily it seems that just 5 orders are affected and I didn't have anything similar since. Still would like to know why and to be sure it's not going to happen again as it's a nightmare.

I did run the script on the 1 Jan when I was changing VAT rate. However all these orders date before that. First four come in a row on 28 and 29 Dec and the fifth one is just random on 30th Dec. I noticed the problem with Australian order before I changed VAT as my first post in this thread was on 30/12

Only one of these 5 orders is overseas which is vat exempt. Other 4 are UK ones and have 'Including tax' set to £0 in 'Current' tab.

When I open any other order and change 'Tax' settings under 'Total' tabs then tax for this order is re-calculated. When I do the same for the other 5 orders then nothing happens. Looks like a bug to me.

Anyway, my Actinic is crashing so I am loosing my patience a bit. In the old good days when I was running on v7 it was never happening. Why did I upgrade? If you know anyone who can fix my database please let me know.

                              Send it (database) to Actinic.
No one else will be able to do much with it, tbh

Obviously, the details you're now giving show differences between your problem and previously reported ones. Helps to get all that info as early as possible so people can help.

I doubt anyone can help other than Actinic, who may be able to find a database problem.
