Optional Surcharge!

I was wondering if it is possible to alter the optional surcharge checkbox like in this example:

to only add the delivery surcharge once even if 2 or more items were ordered. As it is at the moment, order 2 worktops and the customer is charged £60 delivery.

If not, any suggestions of a workable alternative.

Why aren't you using normal delivery charges, almost certainly shipping by weight is what you should have setup. How many people would order a 3 or 4m top and not need it delivering, seems a bizarre setup on the surface.

Set the whole shop to ship by weight and you have a flexible system to do as you wish then. Have a read up on previous posts about shipping by weight if you need some pointers, it's a very flexible system, no need for checkboxes and surcharges like you are currently doing.

Thanks Lee for your reply. I wanted to add an optional delivery, sometimes trade customers might want to pickup from our showroom to save £30. But then again your suggestion is also valid. Thanks for the nice comments on my site, means alot coming from you. When you need a plan, let me know.

But if you wanted a collect from warehouse option, you'd just set that up as a delivery option (a class) and have a nil cost against it, keep it simple whenever you can, you'll keep your hair for longer . Set up a new class, call it collect from warehouse and have £0.00 as the cost.

I will have a good look through and provide some feedback for sure, my initial reaction was good clear choices. I'll be intrigued to see how the gap of not having a designer see the space works and how a design can be made, so certainly something I am very interested in doing. Hopefully it will be a good exercise for us both.

Lee, with your suggestion above will I be able to offer free delivery on normal orders over £75 with the exeption of worktops which will require a one off delivery charge of £30 per order? So if someone ordered doors and quilified for free delivey but also added a worktop to the order, the worktop will still need a one off surcharge to be added? And can the worktop home delivery surcharge be itemised as a seperate item on the receipt. Confused, you should be!

Typical quick example setup could be worktops to have 1000kg as their weight, all other products normal weight. Weights between say 10kg and 999kg were free, under 10kg was charged at a set fee and a 1000kg+ weight is set at £30. That's the kind of logic you apply. You know if the weight reaches 1000kg that a worktop has been bought (unless someone has ordered 4 million chrome handles), so easy to charge for. Forget the word weight, think of it as a unit of measurement for charging shipping.

Surcharge as a separate item could be trickier, my initial reaction would be a compulsory component set as a separate orderline. It therefore has to be added when the worktop is, IF they select anything other than collect. Drop down list on the worktops themselves, home delivery or collection as permutations.

That would simplify the shipping and get rid of the surcharge label, my god i do hate that word, call it a bloody delivery charge!
