Migrating orders from v7 to v9

Is it possible to move customer orders (pending and completed) from v7 to v9?
I have built a new site in v9 and would like to access my customers previous orders and details etc without using v7.
I thought doing a backup in v7 and restore in v9 would do it, but this will wreck my new catalog as this is part of the backup.

Any ideas appreciated.....

I'd snapshot new v9 site, then import v7 snapshot, let it upgrade etc. and then reimport your v9 snapshot and on the 4th screen select to exclude orders from the import. That gives you v9 updated orders and new v9 design . There is also an import orders option in the file menu as an option. Just backup, backup and backup before you try anything.

Thanks for the pointer. I think the snapshot method will work, but the import orders option looks ideal.
I've found some threads re the same issue in v8 and it appears the import will overwrite rather than merge orders. This is fine as I have no v9 orders yet.
However, the only .mdb file I can find in v7 is ActinicCatalog. Does the import orders command do as it says and extracts only customer order info from the database leaving products, layouts etc untouched ? Or is there an orders.mdb file (or similar) I am not finding ?

There's not much info on this that I can find.
