    Parameter/Permission problems??

    Hi all
No idea where to start with this, but site seems comprehensively b*ggered this morning.
Tried to do a Refresh last night to update some image files that won't be altered, for some reason.... no idea why.

I got an error message "Parameter is incorrect" and the Refresh seemed to stall - none of the base files seemed to be updated on the ticklist box that comes up, but it did say 'complete'.
I checked my site online, and it basically didn't work - home page turned to text, none of the deeper pages reachable.

I tried to do a simple upload, and then got a 'Permission' error - see screenshot.
Site still unusable - and apparently some kind of corrupt script.

Am absolutely not a techie, losing the will to live with Actinic, as my site has barely ever worked properly without some sort of minor glitch at the least.

    Any help v gratefully received

Let's get back to basics first.

    Compact the database.
    Check acatalog and cgi-bin permissions.
Run a network test and check for errors.

Thanks, Duncan for your swift reply - very much appreciated.

Sadly, one of the persistent problems with the site since it was built is that I have never been able to 'compact database' - gives me a 'ConfigDriver/ConfigDSN? not found' type error... sorry haven't got screenshot to show exact error.

How to I check acatalog and cgi-bin permissions?

I have run network test - that was fine.

It's not good news that you can't compact the database - it's important that you get Actinic support to sort that out. You could try a repair and compact in MS Access if you have it. Can you snapshot the site?

If the network test has passed then your folder permissions are most likely correct.

I'm not sure what else to suggest other than to persevere with retrying the purge and refresh. I would recommend you call support as soon as they open.

          OK - thanks.
Actinic support have had a snapshot since Friday, in attempt to resolve the persistent compacting problem.
This is new though [sigh] Don't know whether to make a new snapshot to send to them this morning?
I'll retry the purge and refresh.
Again - thanks for trying to help so quickly

You could also try switching to test mode or uploading to another webspace - it might force Actinic to complete, then retrying your proper domain again afterwards might work.

If actinic is working on a major problem like compact, it may be better to wait before you do any more work as it will probably be over written by the repaired snapshot when actinic solve the compacting problem

                Thanks, Chris.

I received the snapshot back from actinic support, and they say they had no problem compacting. However, despite successfully importing the snapshot from them, uploading and doing a full web refresh, I am still having problems:

                1) Trying to change images for a product results in a 'paramater is incorrect' msg, and am unable to change them at all.

                2) Tried to compact database, and got the same old error msg "There was a problem compacting the database (...) Driver's ConfigDSN, ConfigDriver, or ConfigTranslator failed"

I am starting to get to the end of my tether with this... will it ever work? I don't think it ever has compacted for me

Is it cos I is Mac?

Does anyone else run actinic successfully from a mac with parallels/windows installed?

I'm not a mac user but there are a number of people whio do run Actinic successfully in Parallels.

It obviously sounds like your installation. Make a good backup of both the Site1 folder and the snapshot etc and then try uninstalling Actinic and reinstalling and importing your snapshot back in.
