Max Quantity Orderable For Choices HELPP!!

Certain products on our site have 'choices' in a drop down menu...such as a coat will have:

3 different sizes (choices) for example:

    small 2 in stock
    medium 3 in stock
    large 4 in stock

When you try and order 2 small coats for example, this is allowed by the actinic software.

However when you try and order 3 medium coats this would not be allowed and the message appears:

'Quantity: The maximum quantity allowed to be ordered for this product is 2.'

I assume this is because the max quantity orderable has been set to 2 which is the stock for the product, but the choices are not actual products.

Is there a way around this problem which doesn't involve creating separate products for each size of an item which is very undesirable!!

Please view the last product on this page and you will see what I mean.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

On a serious note. Is there really no way around this problem?

The simple truth is that in order to keep track of how many of something there is then you need something to keep track of.

So to track how many of a product is available you have to create a product for it to track.

It might create a bit of work for you. But in reality you do have three different products:

                - A Small Coat
                - A Medium Coat
                - A Large Coat

Actinic quite sensibly considers these as different items. If you want to track the stock then you'll need to set each one up as a product.

Thats a good idea ... But like you say you would need a fair bit of javascript knowledge to do this ... I'm not sure whether I am capable ha!

Any help with this code would be appreciated !!

If you use the 'options' wizard ensuring that you input the stock level at that specific time, the hideen products are all created for you. It's nowhere near a hideous task as you probably imagine.

AFAIK the text in the drop down would need to be manually edited with the stock numbers as Actinic has no way of populating it with numbers unless these are products with actual stock levels.

they are products with actual stock numbers, i have done this in the csv file using excel formulas and relating the choices to products in an excel product file.

Wasn't that a feature introduced in V9? (Can't remember, don't have V8 installed here any more!)
