integrating the shopping cart with other ecommerce app

I currently have an actinic site working fine, but now want to add to the site a 3rd party piece of software that needs to integrate to the actinic shopping cart, i.e. on the page that has the 3rd party code in it, when a customer clicks on the add to cart, it adds to the actinic cart.

I spoke with Actinic support, and they do not support it, but mentioned this forum as the ideal starting place to see if it can be done.

Any suggestions?

Can you not add the code to the existing add to cart layout?
