Web site home page not uploading

In the page details for my home page I have put a tick in the box "use as website home page" and on the page settings have given the page filename as index.html but when I upload the page doesn't get uploaded.

And ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Add some content to it and then upload.

I've had this before a number of times following an upgrade or a change to a custom outer layout. Backup first. Try temporarily changing the outer layout to something else, compact the database, then upload the change and then change back and upload again.

it could be index.htm and index.html are different. One may already be in existence from before you uploaded the site.

Thank you for the comments so far.

There is content on the page already.

Drounding can you please tell me what you mean by "temporarily changing the outer layout".

There is no other index page on the domain.

          Thank you

The attached image should help. Backup first.

              Thank you for assistance

The problem now seems to be resolved. I did a back up rather than a snapshot, compacted database and uploaded and this time it has worked.

I have the same problem with a customer site which is due to go live tomorrow.

I have tried everything including the advice above, purging and refreshing the website, changing layouts, etc., (many times) but it does not matter what I try, it just refuses to publish the index.html page in the site root.

I am beginning to despair, faced with cancelling the client's go live and their training session.

                Does anyone have any ideas?
