    Changing ‘acatalog’ folder name

I’ve been revisiting my astonlee.com site into improve it's SEO, and not sure if it worth considering changing acatalog folder name to a shorter more relevant title like 'B2B', as this would give me a few more character to play with when creating or changing my page titles, as many search engines prefer short title tags (SERPs), so I would value your opinions/help

    Thanks Alan

I'm sure it would help for searches that have 'B2B' in them but against this you have to consider the loss from any existing links in place.

Looking at the stuff you're doing on the website I wouldn't have thought 'B2B' was a very important keyword.

I would have thought perhaps 'sales' or 'training' might be more appropriate for your business.

I'd maybe think about using a bonus or differentiator keyword.

Each of your sections have the important keywords in them so you could think about what other words searchers might be using. Maybe words like 'professional', 'expert', etc that relevant customers are likely to use when trying to narrow down their search.

          Changing Acatalog folder name

I agree with your comment, and B2B was only mention as a simple example, and thank you for your input.
The important point for me, is that you all agree that "acatalog" in URL is not giving any added value to my site/business, so I should be changing it to something more relevant.
I assume if I change the folder name both on CGI-BIN in the network control panel & root folder at the same time, and refresh the site the folder name will be changed, or should I carry out these changes using another method?

          regards

Web > Network Setup ... Online Store Folder Name.. click on change and Actinic does its stuff for you.

Ensure you have redirects sorted to prevent loss of existing links and SEO work you have done.

My site is xyzshop.com and I use the brochure page for the main Index.html. Is it worth changing the /acatalog to something like /store or /live or something else a bit shorter?

acatalog just doesn't seem right to me.

It would be interesting for others to post if they have changed their store dir.

                Thanks.

Can't comment on the SEO aspect; our main site started in V7 (now V9) so we can't change 'acatalog'. Though we never really liked that bit.

We have two smaller V10 sites - my wife's uses 'store' - http://www.silkfloralshop.co.uk/store/index.html

and a site dedicated to selling stands for flower merchandising uses 'stands'.
