Technical Issue with 'Out Of Stock' When Using 'Options'

I can get the 'out of stock' message to appear against a product quite simply by using the stock monitoring check box against a particular product.

However, when I have an issuse when using a product which has a component option & an attribute (in this case called size):

    1. Stock monitoring check box against the actual product is un-checked.
    2. The component 'option' has two items in the grid for permutations. Small and large. Each has an appropriate price and uses pricing override.
    3. permutation layout for 'option' has 'include prices' checked and 'hide out of stock options' checked.
    4. Below 'option' is the attribute for size followed by the two choice details for small and medium.
    5. Finally two hidden products exist, one for size:small and one for size:medium - these two hidden products were generated by Actinic when originally adding the 'option' via the 'add a new option' button.

So, if I alter the 'estimated stock in hand' to zero on one of the hidden products, the drop down list does not show that size as available (it does not show it at all in the drop down), which is correct.
However, if I alter all of the hidden products to a stock of zero I get a drop down list with no content. I want the drop down list to disappear and the normal 'out of stock' message to be displayed instead.

Hope my rather large explanation helps, apologies if it is too detailed.
Can anybody throw some light on this one please, I will be most grateful.

That is the way it works unfortunatly. I have an Access query in a linked database that flags up any products with no choices left in stock.

Yes it seems crazy that the software is built to display out-of-stock for straight products but not when options are used.

Thanks anyway, I'll keep trying to find a way around this!
