I have read all the messages on this forum, so dont shoot me down yet.
OK i have upgraded from v7 to v8 business, we used to use the mail script from drillpine for v7 which worked fine, this doesn't work for v8. I contacted my host www.pair.com who sent the following message.
Is there a workaround here without moving server?

Using sendmail instead of trying to use relay.pair.com for your SMTP
might be an option in your software. Unfortunately, this is beyond the
scope of our support, as we cannot provide support for 3rd party
software. You will have to contact the vendor of the software to see if
this option is available.
