Try V10, it crashes less. you can upgrade to it and put the site into test mode so that you can do a full test including uploading.

Our V8 sites crash most days (we only upload and download, almost all order processing is done using our plugins) but our V10 site only crashes about once a week. I haven't used V9 on a live site so I can't comment on that.

Well we use it and it's been fine. We don't have thousands of products though. How many 000s are you running?

We have about 2500 products lines on one site but I run another 3 shops with various product lines. Keeping accurate stock control and uploading the site regularly is vital to the good running of my business. By the way I cannot upload one of my sites at the moment, why goodnes only knows, it just decided it didn't want to anymore!!

I see Jan you work for Mole End Software and use your own plugins so I suppose this supports my theory that Actinic is riddled with bugs so you use your own plugins.

Spending the time and money upgrading again is not something I look forward to at all unless the support team get a lot better.

I'm using Business Plus v 9.0.3 IMMA to run 7 live sites. No major issues unless I try to do something too quickly for it to keep up with me!

People use plug ins for added functionality, typically, not to fix bugs.

It's a bit worrying that people are advocating moving to 10 because it "crashes less" though.

Does Business crash a lot anyway, then? Not had any problems with Catalog. Is it a particular issue with Business? ( speaking as someone thinking of upgrading).

We run Business Plus 9.0.5 JHZA

Crashes at least a few times every day. Looking at the crash dumps in WinDbg it's down to bugs in Actinic and a handful of times it's the PHP interpreter crashing Actinic

Other issues:

Uploads fail almost all the time, have to keep hammering Ctrl+U >10 times before it finally starts to upload and doesn't just disappear the upload window (I've repaired, compacted, erased tables as per KB on such issues, doesn't work)

Offline order adjustments often cause incredible amounts of duplication of order lines, sometimes after an adjustment, a single line of a product will be duplicated 5 times!

Problems with orders losing their line items too.. this has happened a couple of times. The Order Detail table will have 0 records in it relating to the order in question.

There's other stuff too but those are the major issues we're suffering.

EDIT: one other major bug we encounter manifests itself as Actinic freezing, pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete to start Task Manager doesn't even work because Task Manger won't draw its own window, as if Actinic has run the system out of GUI handles or something along those lines (Win 7 Pro x64).. Next time it happens I'll get some resource stats and a screenshot. It occurs nearly every day too

My advice would be if you have a working stable store stick with it. The old addage if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I upgraded for exra functionality like Quickbooks link and the ability to add extra stores.

Quickbooks Link has many functionality limitations built in so although it save a lot of time you do have to keep any eye on it to accuratly calculate VAT especially for foreign orders.

My Actinic can crash 10 times a day easily so crashing say only one a week would be like heaven I suppose.

No real problem

Hello. We are using 9.0.5 and have few problems of the sort that you describe. We are running Mole Ends' One Stop Automation, which we have set to download orders every 5 minutes, update the maximum qty that can be ordered of a product, and upload, thus keeping the stock levels online as close as possible to the correct figures. Version 10 does this for you. We correct any stock errors, particularly caused by failed payments, by importing the stock figures from Sage to Actinic once a day when all orders have been processed and packed for that day, order downloads suspended.

Crashes are rare, and are usually involving the Mole End software trying to run simultaneously with our business server backing-up at midnight. It also occasionally crashes when clicking Print on the orders, which may have more to do with the printer buffer or driver than with Actinic.

To avoid "crashes" I would recommend compacting the Actinic database regularly. As somebody else just suggested too, not doing things too fast can help - wait for something to happen before clicking again or on the next thing.

We have 960 products on one Actinic site, with lots of product information with each (ingredients, nutrition information, etc).

The fact that you have to correct stock problems means that the software is corrupt. This should be corrected with an update by Actinic not you having to do your own fix.

I always wait for Actinic to do stuff but after leaving it for half an hour I generally give up!!

It looks like the problems I am having are the same ones other people are having but Actinic support tell me they know nothing of these problems.
What are they up to!!!???

The plugins I use here are order processing plugins and I use them to make the order processing faster and easier.

I think that the crashes I encountered were caused by using Microsoft access (the underlying database in my version of Actinic) in a networked environment, the network here isn't entirely reliable which didn't help either.

It's difficult to know what the crashes you are seeing are being caused by but you could try giving more detail and someone may be able to help you find workarounds etc.

Mark0x .. if your database crashes a lot, access sometime deletes the primary keys on tables, this causes problems for Actinic. If you are getting duplicate order lines then I would guess that you are missing a primary key on the order detail table. Actinic support can check this for you if you are not familiar with access.

Hi Jan

knowing why Actinic does anything has gone way beyond normal thinking.

It runs along doing certain functions fine for weeks then for no reason it stops doing it, like uploading the site, Actinic supports only answer is that my setting are wrong. Since nothing has changed how can they be wrong?
How can the same settings on one store work but not on another?

Strange question but at least once a day. The office including router etc. all get shut down at night so everything is restarted in the morning.
