Can we apply VAT when destination known?

We have our price set as exclusive of tax. When someone goes to the checkout VAT is added straight away. It is only deducted for vat exempt customers when they select their country.

We want to reverse the logic so that the VAT is applied only AFTER someone selects their country as UK. If they are ordering from the US we don't want them to see the VAT added on at any stage in the payment process.

I've looked in business settings and have searched around this forum but can't find a way to do this. Is it possible?

Try ticking 'request location early' in business settings, see what that does, never used it myself, i can just recall there is a facility there for that.
