I have found that if i create the image as a product and then link it to new products or best sellers and then hide t on the website it still appears in the right barComment

This is like watching a car crash happen in slow motion. Take 5 minutes out and explain the full picture of what you are trying to do. What you seem to be talking about and have done so far is very unlikely to be what you actually want.
So far I have understood - add image only, use actinic marketing list, strip down to just image even though you want to show other info and now you want to do something with a URL. Vaguesville at best.

Sorry, I was typing while trying things but they didnt work anyway.
I have designed my page using the actinic design wizard and I am looking to make a custom side bar where I can insert images with url links to my other websites.
Please can you point me in the right direction.Comment

You could add a new variable to the product which contains the URL to link to, then include that URL in the product layout in the href:
<a href="yourExternalURLVariable"><img blah blah> </a>
