Combining products into a 'kit'

We have some products which are sold both separately and as a 'kit'. For stock control purposes, the components of the 'kit' need to be recorded separately and with the same product references as if sold separately. However, the customer should see a single price/product before choosing to buy the kit. (It doesn't matter if the items are listed separately in the basket/on the invoice and I can deal with the 'special' price via discounts). Any suggestions as to how customer can choose to buy a single product which is actually 2 .....
