Discount once per customer

How can I create a discount code that will only work once per customer? I don't see any options on the surcharges and discounts tool that enables me to specify that each customer can only use it once.

Is it possible?

This is a long standing wish along with gift vouchers that expire or depreciate with use.

hmmmm i have heard this, but then so many things have been on the cards in previous versions but they never come to fruition i no longer rely or base any decision on these "maybe possibly could be" comments.
