Different Pop up images for permutations?!

I have added permutations to some of my products so that I can enter stock levels for individual items in specific (for example) colours. What I would like to do is now generate a popup image for those specific colours - but dont seem to be able to.
Should I have created something other than a permutation to do this?

Would appreciate advise! I am pretty new to all this and seem to be going around in circles!

You can't do that as standard, you'd need a plugin, have a look on drillpine.biz for various image/choice options. Dynamic choice plugin probably your best idea, forget the popup idea unless you use a lightbox type addon.
