Help - Actinic Crashes with 'Shipping and Handli...' error

    Hi there,

I run Actinic Business v9. I have recently got a new PC running Windows 7 (64) and it was installed and ran okay.

Today however, I went to run Actinic and now, as it starts up I get the error seen in this picture:Click image for larger version

Name:	actinic.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	99.1 KB
ID:	546540

I have rebooted and that hasn't cured it, so I cannot get into the program to run any of the troubleshooting tricks.
I have run a 'compact & repair' on the database from within Access, and this hasn't fixed it either.

The strange thing is that my Access module that runs Actinic from a VBA command (see below) works perfectly.

    VBA code: dRetVal = Shell("C:\Program Files (x86)\Actinic v9\Catalog.exe /d /q", vbMinimizedNoFocus)

    Please help!
    Kind regards,
    Phil Benjamin

Have a look at the Windows 64-bit threads, lots of these sort of problems have been discussed, you might find running v9 on W7 is not an option for you if you have a large site.

      I did, I did, I did

I did look through some of the threads, and didn't see this problem (though I may well have missed some).

Looks like I may have to upgrade then, which is frustrating.

In the meantime, any ideas how I can get around this, and into Actinic?
      Kind regards,
      Phil Benjamin

Try command prompt, using the run command on your PC, add:

        "C:\Program Files\Actinic v9\Catalog.exe" /s Site1

Use the whole of that line including the quotes and change the 'Site1' if that is not the name of your folder.

          Thank you

          Thank you Lee, I'm in!

Now I know I can get in, I can see about trying to find the fix (if it's possible). If I find one, I'll post it.
          Kind regards,
          Phil Benjamin

Try compacting the two databases as a first step - it may be as simple as that.

              Interesting

Yes, that was the first thing I did once I got in. Unfortunately it didn't fix the problem.

As I can now get into the program, I don't have a real problem anymore, however it might be of curiosity value: I can run the program from the command line, but not from the icon.

That isn't something that often happens, so I wonder if anyone has seen that before and can provide a reason why.

(I suppose I could try creating a new icon, which just runs the command line command!)
              Kind regards,
              Phil Benjamin

Maybe the sites.ini file is a bit messed up. Have you got multisite and deleted or changed a site recently?

I don't have multi-site, but I have recently re-installed the package onto my shiny new Sony Vaio running W7(64). The database had been developed on Vista 32 before then.

However, I'm happy to look at the sites.ini file, which I have never looked at before. It simply has this:

                  [Sites]
                  Site1=

                  [Site1]
                  Upgrade=
                  Backup=
                  UpgradeType=

                  Is that good?
                  Kind regards,
                  Phil Benjamin

The sites.ini file will be empty if you don't have mulitsite. I suspect this may be something to do with permissions. Have you tried running with UAC switched off as a test?

A good idea it seemed, so I did switch off UAC (which requires a reboot) but alas, no change.

I'm still grateful for the help.
