Export Crashing - Business Plus V9

    Hi Everyone,

I'm desperately hoping somebody has encountered the following problem and resolved it before I throw myself onto the sharp end of my keyboard.

When attempting to export a site Actinic hangs and presents the usual ''not responding' message. Then windows throws up 'Catalog - Internet sales application has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program & notify you if a solution is available'.

A little background history. Products have reached about 2500 and noticed I couldn't export about a week ago. After much reading around the forum I tried quite a few things which I will mention later, but in the end reverted back to a previous snapshot. This snapshot had about 30 sections less and about 300 products less. I tested if I could back up after import. Success. I then recreated all of the old sections (without adding products) and tried backup.... success. I then started adding products (about 100) and tried export.... no success. Back where I started. It's worth noting I upgraded to Windows 7 in January but successfully exported a few times using Windows 7.

Software is Business Plus V9.02.0.0.0 IFZA. Windows 7 operating system. I have compacted the database, tested 2 other sites which export fine, tried deleting sections (all of them in fact) to see if layout was an issue, tried closing all other programs whilst exporting, tried increasing pc performance. Even tried running in XP Compatibility mode. Some of my products have quite long product descriptions. Is it known if any fields have max limits which may be causing problems. I'm clutching at straws now.

Didn't mean to waffle but any help greatly received.

Hard to say but I would continue adding small numbers if your new products at a time.

Do you have lots of custom variables, and if so are they scoped to only product or section or do they all include site as well?
Are you using single product per page?

      Hi Duncan,

Thanks for the reply. Virtually no custom variables. The ones that are present are sight wide and have been there for some time before this export problem arose. Each page has multiple products although there is one page that only has one product. Out of shear curiosity I have just deleted the product and tried again but still no joy.

Any more ideas Duncan or indeed anyone?

      Thanks in advance.

Windows 7 reportedly has memory problems that can cause issues when trying to export a snapshot of a large site. It sounds like this could be what you're experiencing.

There a thread on this here http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=49785

Actinic have a post that details the problem and what can be done about it.

          Update

          Hi everyone,

I have been a little quiet due to other priorities recently, but thought I would give an update which doesn't have answers, but may help others pin this one down as the reason may have been narrowed down a little.

The snapshot I was trying to create had approx 30 new sections which had updated to the web without issue, but would now let me take a snapshot. Since then I have started from scratch regarding those 30 sections (i.e. deleted them and started again) and successfully re-created 15 sections with products, and can successfully create a snapshot. However..... when I try to create products in the subsections found in the following section, the snapshot causes actinic to close down.

Happy hunting if anybody can see where the fault may lie.

PS. Thanks Mike (olderscot) for your pointers, but in this case I think the memory problem which causes similar issues to other people is not applicable in this instance. Thanks for the pointer anyway.
