£ signs replaced by Squares

I am running Actinic 8 on Fashosts Linux platform. Last week suddenly without warning I could not publish. The error was that I did not have the rights to go to the cgi bin. I have rung fasthosts till I am blue in the face but they only said it was the software. Any way it has miraculouslt gone right on its own.
However the £ signs have disappeared off my website and have been replaced with a small square? I have tried a full update. I have altered the site to dollars and uploaded, then changed back to the pouind and still the little squares are there. I have been running on this fasthost platform for a few months with no problems. Any one any ideas.

If it was working before and has stopped then the problem will be a server setting.
Your webserver is probably using 'Unicode' (UTF) as the default character set - it should be using ISO. You need to ask your web host to change this.
