    Checkout URL &refpage

What does the &refpage in the checkout URL do?

    A la:

    http://www.patchwork-rabbit.co.uk/cg...CTION=SHOWCART&REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww.patchwork-rabbit.co.uk%2facatalog%2fblackbird-designs-loose-feathers-2011-summer.html

Referring page, ie shows you where you came from, so it can take you back there.

Ah, for the Continue Shopping button?

I think it's causing an http 406 error when customers add products from that page then try to checkout.

My webhost said that it's hitting some of the security rules for URL processing on that server and that they've put in an exemption for the current hit, but it hasn't fixed it.

edit: I've temporarily redirected that page to another with a shorter URL to see if it fixes the problem, but can create a similar test one if anyone's interested in the problem!

There's literally thousands of people without this issue, so that points to a problem either on your site (you'll know what you've been playing with) or more likely a hosting issue in which case a hosting change might be in order. Setup another page and try it yourself, see what happens, put the same products on one by one, try and narrow it down to what is the issue.

I've already been able to narrow it down. It's only happening when checkout is called from this page, so it has to be the URL causing the problem. Once a product is in the cart, there's nothing to differentiate between them, surely? Thus it's unlikely to be the products themselves, but more how the checkout is called, thus the URL.

The issue doesn't happen for everyone, including me, so just trying different combinations isn't an option, but thanks for the advice.

As an update to this, I shortened the product page URL from

            blackbird-designs-loose-feathers-2011-summer.html

            to

            loose-feathers-2011-summer.html

and had my wonderfully patient and lovely customers try again and it now works.

Moral of the story: beware product page URL lengths....
