    Search settings

Is it possible with Actinic to make it so that when you're searching for a product you can narrow your search down like on the Autotrader website when you select the make of car it loads up all the models in another drop down to avoid searching for something obscure like a 'Vauxhall Mondeo'.

I have three variables entered for each product; The main product type (i.e. Paper) then the sub category (i.e. photo paper) and then the third sub category (i.e. size).

Because I have around 19k products on the site, when I set up the search settings I have three massively long boxes, so the obscure combinations you could come up with are almost endless. I need it to be so that when you select paper from the top drop down it just displays the paper types in the next drop down and then when you select the paper type it just displays the sizes in the last one. Is this possible with Actinic, or even a third party plugin?

    The webiste is http://www.clearprintonline.co.uk/shop/

    Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you can't do this out of the box and I don't know of any plug-in that can do it.

That doesn't mean it can't be done.

I'm pretty sure one of the clever coders on here could develop something to do this. I've seen people use php to query the database and that should be able to create the lists that a dropdown search would need.

This probably isn't trivial to develop and make robust so I wouldn't expect to see a solution posted on the forum.

Your best is probably to contact Norman Rouxel if you want to go ahead with this.

Teclan now support the menu stinkyink created that does just this (i think). They used it to help you choose printer cartridges, have a look on the stinkyink site and the teclan site.
