linked database - products not updating locally

    Hi All,
I have an external database of stock linked to several actinic sites.
SOME variables such as product id, description etc are present in the local product table for every product, but some variables are only ever shown in the shared database.... eg the extended page name, or the barcode.

Is there a way of forcing Actinic to actually import all the data from every field in a record, rather than just a few default ones?

if you don't understand what I mea, let me know and i'll try to explain better!

    andy

p.s. ive got a query in each catalog mdb file that does this, but its a pain to do every time i update the feed.

    Hi Andy,

The data is read in each time you open catalog, the only time the values are every copied over it when you link the data for the first time.

If you want to repeatedly import the data, you would need to generate a hierarchical import file and import that.

If I've answered the wrong question, apologies.

      as i suspected

      Ah ha.
that would explain it then. i'd assumed similar.
I now run an update query in each actinic database when i have updated a load of things.
I will get round to doing it from my shared stock database at some stage.... well, maybe!
      thanks Jan for that.

My issues arrises because I use teh Mole ENd product mash (wonderful by the way) and that DOESNT read from the linked file..... thats teh ONLY dissapointing feature about it.

        Hi Andy,

The mash does use the linked fields for the most commonly used fields actually. If you have a field that isn't being linked, report it to the Mole End support department and if it is possible then we will change the program to use the linked value. I am fairly sure that we will not be able to link to user defined properties though, most standard fields are linkable.

          Ok thanks.

          It will not link to:
          extended info page
          barcode
          reportDescription
custom variables ive set up myself.
well, if it does for other people, i'm damned if it does for me!!!!

I have contacted Mole End this weekend about it.

          thanks
          andy

It won't link to the custom variables but can probably be changed to link with the others, it will depend how Actinic stores them. Mole End support will get back to you.

My latest version of the Mash DOES now pull in data from custom variables. cool! well, except ive killed actinic with a custom var, but thats another issue altogether....
