    Use custom variables on checkout

I'd like to have a product variable for the colour.

So on checkout I'd like to be able to have:

"image of product" --> "description" "quantity" "Remove" and underneath
    "Colour" and "Product reference"

What's the best way of doing this.

I was thinking of creating a new option called "colour" and have only one choice per product e.g. brown but having it hidden from the product.

Would that work and if it will how would I be able to reference it on the basket page?.

    Thanks...

Attributes and choices seem the only way you will do that, unless you add a component which is selected as standard and not optional.

Great, I like the idea of adding a component that is selected as standard and not optional.

But practically how exactly do I go about doing this and how do I call this (variable/component)? on my basket layout so I can obtain its value?

      Thanks again.

You'd have to add a non-optional component to every product, it would show in cart as standard, you'd not need to do anything to get it showing there. Try it on one product, might do what you want.
