error sending despatch email via Actinic

Receiving the following error when attempting to send confirmation of despatch emails:

Failed to communicate with the SMTP server.

Possible cause:
1. Network transmission problems
2. Could have changed the SMTP server settings but not uploaded after that.

Recommendation:
if retry fails, check your SMTP settings or contact your ISP

Can anyone help with this - SMTP settings are all correct, passwords have been checked, nothing appears to be wrong. Actinic don't support V9 anymore so we're stuck and can't get the system working properly

If you're hosted with 1&1 you'll need to change the SMTP server to mrvnet.kundenserver.de

Thanks for your reply, but we're not hosted with 1&1.... any other suggestions??

Do the order confirmation emails go ok?

It will be much easier to sort this if you tell us the host, network settings and website url. Otherwise we're just guessing blindly.

PS: If you want to do it yourself, look in the website's error.err file. SMTP errors will usually be logged in there.
