what causes missing icons in the product tree ?

I'm running v8 and lately some of the icons have disappeared from the product tree.
The tree still works, just missing some of the icons
I've attached an example
I will happily edit the database within MS Access if only I knew where or how they are generated.

the missus has said that "the reason the icons are missing is the product/section is hidden on the web" - it always does that, didn't you know. ?

sometimes, you do wonder if its me or the missus thats at fault, I think I know its her
