Anyone using a screen resolution less than 1024x768 will not be able to see the whole site without scrolling horizontally!

There are still a load of people out there using 800x600.

This link was posted on here a while ago, not sure where the stats are from but it looks quite official:
        http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2004/September/res.php

It seems hard to believe so many people are still at 800x600, but i suppose we all were at one time..

These stats come from the websites which pay $22 to have 'thecounter.com' webstats/counter on their sites and apparently collected from 92,237,275 website visitors globally.

I guess they do show that we can now move away from using just the web safe colour pallete!! lol

            From the W3C:

            http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

800x600 and less is declining consistently, but should still be accomodated. You could always serve different stylesheets to different screen resolutions, or design a liquid, fluid or elastic site.

Unless you know precisely what resolution your customers will use, I think it's best to play it safe here.
