What would I miss out on with version 4 ?

I have the chance to purchase an (official!) version 4 of Actinic Catalogue but am unsure what features have been added in versions 5, 6 and 7.

Would version 4 provide me with the features to start a small on-line store selling about 100 different products ?

Does version 4 have the facilities to link into all the common cart providers (e.g. protx) so that credit card payments can be taken ?

Would I be better off buying a later version instead ?

I can't remember all the changes that there have been but in my case each of the upgrades has had stuff I wanted so I've moved to the next version each time (and I'm about to move to V7 which has some more nice stuff in it).

the only way I can think of to see for yourself is to look at the release notes for each version (as they tell you what's new). You can find them here: http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/downloads.htm

We have been using version 4 for a while now, with all the capabilities you will need for running a successful e-commerce business.
The payment providers we use are SECPAY with no problems at all.
You can have 10,000 products if you like.
You can also send an email to your customers on orders placed, this is normally all you need to run a successful business.
Yes you will upgrade eventually but to test the water for a few years this will be fine for you. grab it!

There are numerous live sites out there using V4. Version 4 doesn't support protx but it does have other PSP's.

I personally would buy V7, it has a lot more features and it is (IMHO) a much better product. As I understand it V4 is not supported.

Is the V4 package greatly discounted? If you are interested in buying Actinic cover, then you could buy V4 and then buy cover to upgrade to V7. That might save you a few bob.

Take a look at http://www.actinic.co.uk/v7/acatalog/

Select the program you are currently using, and then select the v7 product you are thinking about, and you will get a complete list of features you would gain by the upgrade.

I agree with Jan, V4 is unsupported, a later version will give you more features and will be more stable

Why would anyone still be selling V4. Actinic will kindly upgrade any stock that is held by a reseller.

Like Jan and Jo I would go for V7. The time saved opening and closing product dialogs is worth it alone.
