Question regarding duplicates without components

Hi all

I have a question regarding product duplicates.

Is it possible to copy a product that has components, but then delete those components from the duplicate?

Actinic won't allow me to delete the components from a duplicate. However, we have found that we can import products and duplicates and achieve a situation where the main product has components but the duplicate does not.

So far, so good. But when uploaded to a website, the duplicate produces the following error message when I click "add to cart":

Error: The specified product (reference Dup0_T4023) has just been removed from the catalog
====

So clearly Actinic does not like the fact that we have imported the duplicate without the same components that the main product has.

The question is: Is this a bug or just the way it has to be?

I would say that this is how it is meant to be, i.e. as a duplicate, what you are after is not a duplicate in effect, as you are stripping the components out of it which makes it a duplicate product.

Just my 2 pennies worth.
