Server name or address cannot be....

resolved then followed by error message

The test script failed to execute on the web server. The error could be caused by several things. Check the path to the Perl shell, the CGI script extension, the path to CGI-BIN, and the CGI-BIN URL. This error could also occur if your web site is out of disk space or your web server is not configured to accept POSTs to CGI scripts.

Hi, I am running Actinic V 6.1.4 and I am unable to run test scripts or upload a working catalogue to my Host BT Broadband Server. I get the above message when I try to set up manually and using the wizard it tells me my permissions are 0640 not 0755 when they are infact 0775

BT have NOT helped at all, sent them the config email but still no reply, please help if poss as at the moment all my customers get is a holding page

All I need is confirmation of the settings for a manual connection, I am sure i have them correct, just need peace of mind (I have also tried with the F/W turned off, cgi has been enabled (and it cost more!!)

    Cheers DMZ

Could you paste your network settings (*** out the username and password bit) into this post, and what your default public_html area should be as advised to you by the host, i.e. they should have told you that public files go into eg: /documents or /web or /public_html or /htdocs all dependant on what they are using to host you on.

and we will see if something can be located for you amongst it.

      Network settings are

OK, right here we go then

      Host; btconnect.com
      URL; http://home.btconnect.com/covers2u
      uploads to ../docs/ (public folder)
      cgi bin ../docs/cust-bin/

The settings currently used on actinic are:

      Catalog URL:
      http://home.btconnect.com/covers2u/docs/acatalog

      CGI Bin URL
      http://home.btconnect.com/covers2u/cust-bin/

path from CGI BIN TO ACATALOG
      /docs/acatalog/

      Perl shell path
      /usr/local/bin/perl

      Mail server
      mail.btconnect.com

      Thanks in advance

        Hi there

Looking at BT online help It looks like you need to use a .cgi extension, rather than .pl. So please change this in your "Advance | Network Setup"

Also your path from CGI BIN TO ACATALOG should be ../acatalog/ as you specified your cgi-bin folder to be ../docs/cust-bin/

        Please try these

        Kind Regards

          Still not working

          Hi

thanks for your advice so far. Using the Wizard to set up the web site I receive the permissions error, using the manual entry I still receive the 'server name or address cannot be resolved'

Having finally received a reply from BT (after copious hours on the telephone talking to someone who does NOT know what CGI scripts are for and he's a TECH SPECIALIST?) to the email within Actinic (which was not much help at all only confirming what we already know?!) I am now convinced that as a ISP provider they are fine BUT as a web host they haven't got a clue!!

The original email has been resent, I have waited 5 days for an answer to what database I can build on their servers and no doubt it will be another week until they reply to my Actinic query!

Don't know if I have the patience to solve this so the new site design is under way. Anyone out there use BT? If so what are you config settings....or should I just move host?!

            Hi

this thread can be put to bed now I am afraid. BT DO NOT AND WILL NOT relax the permissions on the cgi bin folders etc. so I am stuffed!

ACTINIC WILL NOT RUN ON THEIR SERVERS.

Off to a new host me thinks. Thanks for trying anyway guys
