parcelforce are now using volumetric weights for international shipping, there does not appear to be an easy way of handling this with existing shipping classas and scripts
> Pricing for International Standard and Economy services is per
> item.
> Large lightweight items may be charged by cubic capacity. For
> example, if a consignment's volume to weight ratio exceeds 1
> cubic metre per 120kgs, we reserve the right to levy a
> surcharge of up to 4 times the consignment delivery charge.
replacing weight in kg for these products with LxWxH (cm) / 6000 if > actual kg weight would be possible except that volumetric pricing doesn't apply to the UK parcels
is there an easy way to modify the orderscript to use alternative weight if international shipping chosen?
so far tried modifying scripts adding custom properties to the shopping cart
e.g. sending custom property with value "UK" to the cart and only allowing checkout if shipping country is UK otherwise returning to store until the item is removed
also sending "PARCEL" to disallow checkout if shipping is set to post / airmail / small packet class
would be more efficient if the actinic code didn't include mail shipping classes option if the item was marked parcel rather than hacking the script to cause an error at checkout if customer tries to select it though!
giving a product a custom property of VOLUME and setting a value might work but so far unable to use the value of 'VOLUME' to affect the shipping calculation - have managed to check for it's presence in the cart but not find the values on the possibility tythat someone may have ordered more than one product where volumetric shipping applies
must successful was setting weight in kg to 1000x volumetric weight if it applies + weight in kg and checking for that
e.g. something obviously lightweight like a pillow weighs 600g but set as 18600.66 in catalog.
Actinic could leave the standard weight in kg shipping as it is but I don't think UK customers won't be too happy paying #45.00 per pillow for delivery! they already think you can post anything anywhere for 27p
